D2OpenGL test build - 2026-09-27 ================================ An OpenGL renderer for Diablo II: Lord of Destruction 1.14d, restored from Blizzard's own Mac renderer, with a wide view, a new HUD, HD text, and optional AI-upscaled HD graphics packs. This is a TEST build: expect rough edges. What you need ------------- - Your own Diablo II + Lord of Destruction install, patched to 1.14d. - Windows (tested on Windows 11). - A graphics card with OpenGL 3.3 or newer. - Disk space for the HD packs you pick (all of them: about 2 GB; see below). Install ------- 1. Unzip everything into your Diablo II folder (where Game.exe is), keeping the folders. You get D2OpenGL.dll, D2OpenGL.ini, Play.bat, this README and a D2OpenGL-hd folder. 2. Download the HD packs you want (.hd files) and put them in the D2OpenGL-hd folder. Without any pack the game still runs, with smoothed (MMPX) sprites. The packs are split so you can skip what you do not want: 00-amazon-full-clean00.hd the Amazon, all gear (newest, best quality) 00-sorceress-full-clean00.hd the Sorceress, all gear (newest, best quality) 05-characters.hd the other classes (older quality, not every frame) 10-units.hd monsters, NPCs, objects, missiles, effects (the big one) 20-ui.hd interface: panels, menus, automap 30-items.hd items in the inventory and on the ground 40-tiles-act1.hd .. 44-tiles-act5.hd floors and walls, one file per act Keep the file names as they are: the game loads them in name order. No game file is changed. To uninstall, delete the files you added. Start ----- Double-click Play.bat. It runs: rundll32 D2OpenGL.dll,Play which starts Game.exe with the OpenGL renderer loaded (on 64-bit Windows it uses the 32-bit rundll32 in SysWOW64). Options after Play.bat are passed on to the game, for example "Play.bat -w" for a window. You do not need -direct. (-direct makes the game read loose files from a "data" folder before its MPQ archives; that is only for mods.) Do not start Game.exe directly: then you get the normal game without D2OpenGL. Keys ---- - G: switches between the HD view and the original ("legacy") look. You can rebind it in Configure Controls, "Toggle HD Graphics". - Screen Shot (Print Screen by default, the game's own key): saves the picture as you see it, full resolution, as ScreenshotNNN.png and ScreenshotNNN.jpg in the game folder. - Toggle Item Labels (unbound; set it in Configure Controls): keeps the Alt item labels on. Extras (all switch off with G) ------------------------------ - Automap: monsters (bosses orange, uniques gold, champions blue), superior-or-better items, optional missiles and map reveal. Esc > Options > Graphics Options > Automap. - Item tooltips show the item level and sockets (filled/total). - Your target's life in percent, also on mercenary and party portraits. Settings -------- In the game: Esc > Options > Graphics Options (automap, item info, filter, lighting, coloured light, text, width, screen mode, HUD layout, shadows, transparency, colour detail, ...). Changes are saved to D2OpenGL.ini. Some say "at next start": restart the game for those. The defaults in this build: borderless full screen, width following your monitor (wide view up to 16:9), HD view, HD text, wide HUD. Known issues ------------ - Tested on one machine (Windows 11 in a virtual machine). Other GPUs and drivers are untested: that is what this test is for. - The HD packs do not cover everything yet. What is not in a pack is drawn smoothed (MMPX) instead. Only the Amazon has the newest, cleanest pack. - The first start after install builds the HD text cache (D2OpenGL-hd\cache); it can take a few seconds. - The game starts in borderless fullscreen. For a window, set Window = on under [Display] in D2OpenGL.ini (or Esc > Options > Graphics Options > Display > Screen). - Single player and TCP/IP only. Do not use this on Battle.net. - Other mods and tools that hook the game (PlugY, glide wrappers, bots, ...) are untested and may conflict. - If the game does not start, look in D2OpenGL.log in the game folder. Feedback -------- Please send what you see - screenshots, your GPU and Windows version, and D2OpenGL.log if something went wrong - to: the person who sent you the download link
